Shayla Pickens LCSW-C

Between my personal growth journey and my clinical work, I have gained a priceless amount of experience that lends to the work I enjoy doing. I am committed to finding ways to help clients incorporate practical yet meaningful skills to apply in their day-to-day life. I am an experienced clinician with over a decade of time invested in helping individuals work through life adjustments/transitions, address stress response patterns, and work through grief/bereavement. I make a conscious decision to provide consistent support towards clients’ goal achievement.

A large portion of my clinical work includes use of a strengths based approach, cognitive behavioral techniques, solution oriented action steps, and/or grief related activities/interventions.

I am an LCSW-C for the state of Maryland. I received a Bachelor of Science Sociology degree from Lander University and a Master of Social Work degree from the University of South Carolina (Columbia). I am continuously gaining knowledge about best practices in helping clients reach their goals in therapeutic work. I am a Certified Grief Informed Professional (CGP).

Moving through life we collect stressors, unhealthy or poor coping skills, negative thoughts, traumas and more. Collecting these experiences may lead you to feel lost, unprepared, and overwhelmed. However they manifest, realigning with yourself and working through these life experiences can be a journey that we take together. We will work together to address your needs and goals in a non-judgmental, safe environment where you can better understand yourself and find progress forward.

I work with individual adults focusing on those who experience stress, depression, anxiety, adjustment concerns and other traumatic life experiences. My approach is focused on integrating Cognitive Behavioral Theory (CBT), mindfulness, and bibliotherapy with a person-centered framework. I also encourage clients to participate in other activities to support and amplify wellness including yoga, meditation, and exercise.

I am a licensed graduate professional counselor. I attended Johns Hopkins where I earned a Master’s of Science in Counseling. I look forward to working together with you on your journey!

When human beings face adverse events or severe life stressors, it is not uncommon for their lives to spiral out of control. I have a tremendous passion to provide healing for those individuals who are living with the consequences and symptoms of hardship. I have worked with children, adults and families to create healthy perceptions of themselves and strengthen their relationships with the community resulting in them feeling peaceful, complete and safe.

While traditional therapies tend to focus on fixing problems and dealing with pathology, my primary modality of treatment, positive psychology, takes a different approach. The goal of positive psychology is to build happiness and well-being. I also incorporate client-centered, behavioral and experiential interventions into my work with clients. I work with adults, adolescents, children, couples and families. I have a clinical interest in men’s mental health and in addressing specific counseling needs of minority community members.

I’m a licensed graduate professional counselor (LGPC) with an educational background that includes a Master’s in Counseling and a Bachelor’s in Conflict Analysis & Dispute Resolution (CADR). In my practice, your safety is important to me and I will work to support you gaining the insight and perspective needed for healing. I look forward to working alongside you in this process.

Dr. Carlos Evering Anesthesiologist

I am a board certified anesthesiologist and graduate of the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. I completed my general anesthesia training at the University of Maryland Medical Center in Baltimore. I have also completed training in internal medicine in Lancaster, Pennsylvania.

I am the interim chair of the anesthesia department at St. Agnes Hospital where I continue to practice medicine. I have over 14 years of experience safely and effectively administering anesthesia to thousands of patients.

I help train medical staff in the most current and evidence-based practices of anesthesia medicine. I have an interest in using anesthesia in outpatient infusions to treat refractory forms of depression, anxiety, PTSD and chronic pain conditions. When the mainstay of treatment for psychiatric disorders proves insufficient, patients need other choices. We have found infusion medicine might be the answer they’re seeking.

With my background and roots in osteopathic medicine I bring a holistic approach to understanding medicine, wellness and overall health. I am also a registered physician in the state of Maryland for Cannabis Medicine.
